Trimmed miniature cut from the Gradual of Fernando and Isabel, depicting Gideon and the Fleece; Castile, prob. c.1482-1492.

The MS from which this was cut is well known, and was attributed by J. Domínguez Bordona to the illuminator Juan de Carrión; from the monastery of St Thomas Aquinas in Avila to which it was presented by the Catholic Monarchs, during the s.XIX it passed into the possession of Manuel Rico y Sinobas who dismembered it. The catalogue illustrates the miniature and usefully lists other fragments known in collections and at auctions.
